The Institute

We are not what you expect…

For those not familiar with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, initial thoughts are often that we are an accounting firm.

Our role
The Institute is the professional body representing Chartered Accountants in Australia. We promote and support Chartered Accountants as leaders within the accounting profession through accreditation and professional education programs; as well as through lobbying, thought leadership and promoting the Chartered Accountant brand and reputation within Australia.

Businesses in Australia, big and small rely on the expertise and professionalism of Chartered Accountants, so the impact of our focus can even reach to protecting the public interest and strengthening the Australian business community.

Who we are
Within Australia, we represent more than 54,000 of today’s and tomorrow’s business leaders, including 43,000 Chartered Accountants and 11,000 of Australia’s best accounting graduates who are currently enrolled in our world class Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting.

Our members work in diverse roles across commerce and industry, academia, government and public accounting practices throughout Australia and in 107 countries around the world.

Our international connection
Globally, the Institute is a founding member of an international accounting coalition, the ‘Global Accounting Alliance’ (GAA). This connects more than 700,000 Chartered Accountants world-wide and entitles our members to reciprocal arrangements with eight of the premier accounting bodies in the world.

The Institute is a national organisation with more than 270 full time and part time employees located in six capital cities across Australia. We have a fantastic team and offer diverse roles and career opportunities.
